Concern for Independent Living

Recipient of the Metropolitan Life Foundation
National Award of Excellence in Affordable Housing

Founded in 1972 as an advocacy organization, Concern for Independent Living has been developing housing for more than 20 years. Concern currently provides housing and comprehensive services to more than 300 individuals and families in more than 150 units throughout Suffolk County.

The vast majority of our housing is Permanent Supportive Housing, where program participants pay 30% of their income toward their rent. In addition to beautiful, affordable housing, participants receive support services to help them maintain their housing and live with dignity.

Concern has an array of housing options, ranging from highly supervised community residences to independent housing in apartments and houses throughout Suffolk County. Together with staff, referral sources and family members, clients choose the housing that best meets their needs and rehabilitative goal. Concern is committed to providing safe, affordable housing with supportive services in a culturally sensitive environment.
